Zapdos' FAQs

Hi! I'm Zapdos, and I'll be the legendary bird you go to for information! Whether you want to know more about us legendaries, how things work in our life, or just something about the Poke'mon world, I'm the bird to see!

Below you'll see some questions that I've already answered. If you have a question of your own, E-Mail Ho-oh 59 and let him take care of it.

1. Why is Ho-oh 59 known as Ho-oh 59 on the web and just Ho-oh in the video games and TV Show?

-Because Ho-oh 59 is currently Level 59, and he uses that number so as to avoid confusion with the Poke'mon. In the video games, Nintendo left the number out so as not offend fans of the other legendary Poke'mon. I know this answer is not exciting, but it is the truth.

2. Who is your personal favorite sibling legendary Poke'mon and why?

-Well, I would have to say Ho-oh 59. The reason is not that I like him but that I don't like the others. Articuno tries to make us overload on sugar at dinner and also likes to try to startle us by hitting us with a weak freeze attack. Moltres teases me on purpose because I'm the smallest of the legendary Poke'mon. Raikou can be dangerous to be around because he is excessively combative. Entei spends too much time training in his Rock Mountain and tends to ignore me. Suicune is too much of a wimp. Lugia is not mean, but he is boastful and I think he is boring. Ho-oh 59 is the most fun to be around because he has a good sense of humor and doesn't usually try to be mean, unless, of course, you insult Poke'mon or in some other way make him mad, which I myself know better than to do.

3. Do legendary Poke'mon hatch from eggs like other Poke'mon? Or are they born alive and special?

-Believe it or not, Legendary Poke'mon are neither born nor hatched. They are genetically "created" by the hand of Mewtwo, the psychic Poke'mon we call our Master. That's why there is only one in each Poke'mon game (unless you use Gameshark).

4. How big is the cave that your family lives in?

-I don't know exactly how big it is-in area, that is, because it's quite hard to measure the area of a cave due to the fact that it is naturally formed and requires a lot of geometric calculations, but I'd estimate it's about four times the size of Carlsbad Caverns on Earth. It goes about one mile underground.

5. Who in your family is a boy or a girl?

-Actually, none of us have a gender. If you'd bothered to play Poke'mon Gold/Silver, you'd see that there is no gender next to a legendary Poke'mon. But on this site, Ho-oh 59 refers to most legendary Poke'mon as "he", because its easier.

6. What do you and your siblings fear most?

-Well, when Mewtwo created us, he made it so that we would be very strong and pretty much fearless. But I guess we do have a few fears. Articuno fears high temperatures. I've heard Raikou dislikes darkness, and Suicune is just afraid of Raikou. I think Ho-oh 59 is afraid that someone will insult his pride, and Lugia is afraid of crystal balls. Entei is afraid Rock Mountain might collapse on him. Moltres is afraid of snakes. As for me, I'm afraid Ho-oh 59 might boot me off his website.

7. Why weren't Misty's sisters (Daisy, Violet, and Lily) around when Red and Gold challenged Misty's Gym?

-Misty's sisters sometimes go out shopping for things. When they do, they leave the Gym to the care of Misty. I'm not sure why they don't just have Daisy stay behind, since she's the oldest of the sisters and they all think Misty is a baby, but they both happened to challenge at that time.

8. Someone told me that you lost a leg in the battle between the legendary birds in Poke'mon The Movie: 2000, how did you land without it?

-I had a leg made of tape for quite awhile after that. I avoided landing, though, as it was painful. Fortunately, I got Moltres back for that later on!

9. Is it very exciting to live in a cave?

-Considering how big and souped-up our cave is, I suppose it is. It is also pretty fun, as you have a secret hideout and can spend time looking at the stalagmites and stalactites.

10. Out of all the legendary Poke'mon, who has the strongest attacks?

-Well, Mewtwo got more experienced with his genetic experiments as he created legendary Poke'mon, so the Poke'mon he created got steadily more powerful. So, since Ho-oh 59 was the last one he created, I guess it would be him that has the strongest attacks. If not me.

11. How fast can all the legendary birds fly?

-All of us can fly at about Mach 1.5, except for Ho-oh 59 and Lugia who can fly at Warp 0.5. They mostly fly at that speed through space, though.

12. Does anyone in your family have a negative blood type?

-Quite a few of us, actually. Lugia, Moltres, and I have a positive blood type. Entei, Suicune, Articuno, and Raikou have negative blood types. Ho-oh 59 has a very weird blood type, it seems to be neither positive nor negative (he classifies it as being "neutral").

13. Does Raikou ever attack you? I mean, he likes to fight and you're both Electric-types. If so, do you fight back?

-Not too often. He knows that I can absorb electric attacks and recover HP, and I'm sure he remembers the time I drilled my beak into his belly. I'm quite the strong thunderbird.

14. How strong are a Scizor's claws, exactly?

-Strong enough to crush a cocunut with Metal Claw. And since quite a few Poke'mon are much softer than a coconut, you'll want to dispose of a Scizor in battle with due haste!

15. Do you think you are the weakest legendary bird? Could you beat any of your siblings in a fight?

-I may not look it, but I am certainly not weak. I can easily faint Articuno, Moltres, and Suicune with a couple of good Thunder attacks, and I could probably even defeat Lugia and Ho-oh if I really needed to.

16. Why does everyone call Kyogre cheap?

-What? You don't already know that? You need to play some link battles. Okay, Kyogre knows Calm Mind. After a few Calm Minds, Kyogre will become nearly impossible to damage, as well as able to defeat almost any Poke'mon with one hit. This makes Kyogre one of the most powerful legendary Poke'mon there is...after Ho-oh 59 and Mewtwo. And maybe me.

17. Is Mirage Island a real place, or is it just an addition in Poke'mon Ruby/Sapphire?

-Mirage Island is a real place. But it isn't accessed the same way as in Poke'mon Ruby/Sapphire. In Hoenn, it appears randomly on roughly 5-7 days out of the 365 days of any given year. This is due to some kind of magic force associated with the conditions.

18. Are the Regi Poke'mon, Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquazza, as well as Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, and Deoxys, also Mewtwo-created legendary Poke'mon that are in your family?

-Nope! The Regis are all man-made Poke'mon that were sealed away. Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza are all naturally-existing legendary Poke'mon, and are not the doing of Mewtwo. The same goes for the Gameshark and Nintendo-exclusive Poke'mon.

19. What is up with Lost Cave and Altering Cave? How does Lost Cave send someone back to the start if they take the wrong path? And how does Altering Cave change the wild Poke'mon in it?

-Lost Cave has winding passages between the rooms. Most of them merge together and go back to the starting room. As for Altering Cave, the Poke'mon changing thing is just a rumor. All Altering Cave has is Zubats, and it was once used as a secret getaway spot for smugglers.

20. What is your strongest attack?

-Thunder, duh! Thunder is the most powerful Electric attack any Electric-type Poke'mon can have. But my strength is stronger, so I do a lot of damage when I use Thunder.

21. In Episode 1, Ash saw a golden bird that was later revealed to be Ho-oh. How is this possible? I thought Ho-oh wasn't even created at that time!

-Good question! Well, the thing of it is, the "Ho-oh" Ash saw was golden and shiny. It was likely a Shiny Fearow that was in some way unidentified (Shiny Poke'mon were not investigated until Poke'mon Gold/Silver), and therefore misunderstood to be the real thing by Ash (meaning Morty, Professor Oak, and the rest of the people were right all along). Either that or it's a mirage...

22. How was Pikachu able to damage ground types in the TV Show?

-Most ground-type Poke'mon, while unaffected normally by electricity, have a weak spot that can cause them to be damaged by it. For example, Blaine's Rhydon could be damaged by an electric attack if it hit the horn. It wouldn't take damage otherwise.

23. How much do each of the legendary Poke'mon weigh?

- Well, Articuno weighs 121 lbs, I weight 116 lbs, and Moltres weighs 132 lbs. The big legendary birds are heaver due to their higher mass...Ho-oh 59 weighs 439 lbs, Lugia weighs 476. I don't know the weights of the legendary dogs quite as well, but I do know that they are all around 390-420 lbs. As for Mewtwo, his weight depends upon his mood. On average it is about 260 lbs.

24. How is Deoxys able to change forms?

-He arranges his DNA, of course! Certain forms have better stats than others, but Deoxys chooses what form to change into.

25. What should I do if my question isn't listed here?

-You should E-Mail Ho-oh 59, and he'll inform me, and then he can send you my answer. If it's a good enough question I might even post it here! But be aware that not all questions sent will be added.
